Greg Ragland’s provocative sculpture “HB 236 “ showing a man resting on tilted cross laminated with calligraphy of the old Utah statute (House Bill 236) with one arm of the cross protruding through the figures lower abdomen drew a lot of attention at Celebrating the Human Form. Greg feels that “porn’s purpose is just to stimulate and fill a void were someone doesn’t have something. Porn is intended not to make them think, it’s a medication to not feel. Art is provoking a feeling, stimulating the thinking. Porn pacifies, art elevates.

My idea was to choose a male figure because the bill seemed to be more male oriented as it talks about the genitals in particular. So I chose to remove that whole section of the man because it brings attention to that area because everybody knew it was there just like the bill draws attention to the fact it is there.
I left the center part of his body empty, raw, untouched.”
