Doctorow Family Foundation Grant

We're happy to announce that Artists of Utah was recently awarded a $5000 grant from the Jarvis and Constance Doctorow Family Foundation to support the publication of 15 Bytes for a 12-month period. The Doctorow Family Foundation, headquartered in New York City, supports charitable organizations in New York and Utah. The foundation was impressed by the number of individuals and organizations who supported Artists of Utah during our recent Spring Fundraiser. So to all of you who were able to contribute, thanks once again. And to all of you who wanted to but lacked the funds, thanks for all the good karma.

What Landmark Identifies Salt Lake City

This weekend is the last public opening for the 337 project (http://www.337project.org ) in Salt Lake.

Last night a film crew stopped in at the project. They were on assignment to get some footage of the City County building to be used as a "City Shot" during the broadcast of the Jazz playoff game on Saturday. The "City Shot" is the image of the city the networks go to for our few seconds before cutting to commercial. The crew was driving down 400 East when they saw the building and decided to shoot it instead of the City County bldg. So, unless editors get in the way, on Satrurday ABC and ESPN will show the nation a new image of Salt Lake City -- the 337 project.

The project is open to the public free of charge Friday, Saturday and Sunday noon to 8 pm.

A Note on Our Bookswap

We realize that many of you are probably sick of our month long barrage of emails so we're posting this note on our blog.

We appreciate everyone's financial support during our Spring Fundraiser. And we want you to know that despite our sometimes playful emails, we consider very seriously how our organization's funds are spent. With that in mind, we wanted to explain how our book swaps work.

First of all, the book swaps cost our organizatio $0. We found someone going to Spring City who was willing to transport the books there and then drop them off again in American Fork. Local organizations in the areas are running the book swap. Consequently it costs our organization $0. We don't expect the book swaps will raise tremendous funds for us. They are more an attempt to allow outlying areas the opportunity to participate in some of the activities we do here in Salt Lake.

May 2007 Edition now online

We've just posted the May 2007 edition of 15 Bytes, the first in our new design, which gives more room to the articles and the underwriters. If you have an old monitor your resolution may be such that you can't fit the whole thing on your screen horizontally. Sorry about that. You windows users might try going to your control panel, clicking on "display" then "settings" and attempt to change your screen resolution to something greater than 800 x 600.

If you have comments on the articles in this edition or the new layout, please leave a comment on this post.
