OGDEN AREA
The Ogden First Fridays Art Walk takes place every month on the First Friday of the month. Galleries are open from 6 to 9 pm for receptions.

Universe City UP: Paintings of Tracy Carrera. Carrera's brilliantly colored work presents small jewels of urban life. Beginning with luscious paint and brushstrokes her work depicts the intimate pleasures of being alive: eating, drinking, dancing, working and more. |above|

Eccles Community Art Center UP: 35th Annual Statewide Competition, featuring western theme works of resident Utah artists in the Main Gallery. The Carriage House Gallery will feature the paintings of Terry C. Johnson of Farmington. Through August 29th.

Gallery 25 UP: Featured artist Keith Dabb.Through August.

BDAC UP: Fidalis Buehler, Lester Lee with Brandi Bixler, Lewis Chidziva and Summerfest Artists, through August 28. UPCOMING: Bountiful/Davis Summerfest International, a showcase for the visual and performing arts. August 6th, 7th, & 8th, on Historic Main Street.

LOGAN
Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art UP: Uses of the Real: Originality, Conditional Objects, and Action/Documentation, Contemplation, an exhibit that uses works from the Museum's permanent collection to explore the question, "What is art?" Panel discussions and viewer participation projects will be sponsored during the exhibition through 2009. Through December 2009.

PARK CITY
The next Park City Gallery Stroll is Friday, July 31, from 6 to 9 pm.

GALLERY MAR UP: Textured Stories, new works by Mary Scrimgeour and Ron Russon. Russon paints in oil, employing a loose brush and pallet knife to varied scenes, from a serene resting tractor in a windrowed field of hay to a cacophony of geometric colors creating luminescent bison. Through both abstraction and realism, his art reflects his relationship with nature and his communication with the outdoors. Scrimgeour interprets the world by painting what she sees and feels. Her paintings, thick with paint and imagery, often begin with a story or narrative.

Julie Nester Gallery
UP: Luminous River, new paintings by Robin Denevan. The San Francisco painter's latest encaustic work was inspired by his travels to China's Yunnan Province. His paintings are based on drawings he did of the Yangtze River in an area that will soon be dammed and flooded.

Kimball Art Center UP: The Evening Gowns of Miss America 1953, twelve of the luxurious evening gowns designed for and worn by Neva Langley Fickling, Miss America 1953. In the Main Gallery. August 8 - September 13. AND: Embellissement Each gown chronicles the fairy tale experience of Georgia native and part-time Park City resident, Neva Langley Fickling’s year-long reign. Please join us for two special events in conjunction with the exhibition..
in the Garage Gallery. Meredith Prevot explores feminine identity through the interaction of colors and patterns in her mixed media work. Using upholstery fabric, textile patterns, embroidery hoops, and delicately scaled drawings and paintings, Prevot evokes historical practices of women, particularly as artists, designers and decorators. August 8 - September 28.

Phoenix Gallery UP: Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough, paintings by Jared Gillett. Gillett paints alla prima, or on one painting until it is complete, working with a wet on wet painting process. His initial sketch, color blocking and luscious finishing paint strokes are all applied during one long stint of work.

Meyer Gallery UP: The Best of the Meyer Gallery: Open Vault Show. The Gallery opens up their entire space, including the "vaults" containing archived and stored paintings. Also new work by prominent Utah landscape artists - Douglas Aagard, Steven Adams, Jeff Pugh and Seth Winegar among others.

Springville Museum of Art UP: Selections the John Schaeffer Collection of Victorian Art, through September. AND: 36th Annual Quilt Show, a favorite with museum goers, highlights the beauty, artistry and skill of Utah's best quilters. Through September 2. AND: A Struggle for Beauty and Meaning: featuring a beautiful selection from the Victorian art collection of Australian businessman John Schaeffer. This collection captures the love for beauty, drama, and history that dominated all forms of Victorian-era arts. Through September 1.

BYU Harold B. Lee Library Exhibits UP: Whitney Hardie: Daughters of Eve, through August 6 in the Hallway Gallery, level 2.

The Downtown Provo Gallery Stroll occurs the first Friday of every month.

Covey Center for the Arts UPCOMING: Envisioning the West, Featuring painting and sculpture by Ron Russon, Travis Miller, Rob Calvin and John Berry. August 7 - 31.

Terra Nova UPCOMING: Utah Valley Artist Guild Exhibit, 7 - 28 August. AND: Cristall Harper. Opening Reception Friday, August 7, 6 to 9 pm.

Brigham Young University Museum of Art UPCOMING: Paintings from the Reign of Victoria: The Royal Holloway Collection, London, showcasing 60 extraordinary paintings illustrating some of the highest achievements in figurative and landscape art of the nineteenth century. Acquired by Thomas Holloway to enhance the women’s college he had founded in 1879, the collection includes many of the most visible and praised “modern canvasses” in London in the 1880s. From scenes of contemporary life, as well as historical events, to landscapes, animal studies, and marine subjects, the exhibition illustrates the Victorian belief in art as the ultimate civilizing influence. August 14 - October 25.
