SOUTH EASTERN UTAH
Moab Art Works UP: Fetish, an exhibition of small risqué paintings by Monticello artist Betsy Kelley. “It's a pleasure to be able to feature this collection of small paintings by Betsy in the gallery” said Brian Parkin of Moab Art Works. “Betsy was awarded Best In Show by the judges of the Low Show for her painting of a rabbit in the group exhibition for children last December. However, these new works are most definitely for adults.”"I want these paintings to evoke a feeling of something intimate and private. Secrets interest me. I like it when I discover eccentricities about ordinary people that others do not know about” said Betsy about her work. “I also like the juxtaposition of a theme that is seen as adult against settings that are familiar, even domestic. I incorporate warm, comfortable colors, lazy postures, and lackadaisical facial expressions to create a sense of the commonplace. This lends a sense of innocence to a theme that is often viewed as mature.”
